- Is your
land in one of these states? If so, was your
land patented before the date on the act of
congress? If the patent was issued before
the act of congress take the patent with you
to the treasures office (twp, city, county,
state) and ask for the back taxes and
exemption from now on. The patent
proceedings consist of the patent and copies
of all the acts of congress mentioned on the
patent. They can check if the patent matches
